Anna-Maija Korsimaa

 

Anna-Maija Korsimaa started to play the clarinet at the age of 9. She studied in Turku Concervatory  and later in Sibelius Academy from where she graduated in 1991.

 

She studied also with Guy Deplus in Paris and with Hans Rudolf Stalder in Zurich. She’s taken part in many master classes  (Karl Leister, Alfred Print, John McCaw).

 

She won the national Crusell Competition in 1983, 2nd prize (no 1st prize) at the  international  Geneva Music competition in 1986 and 2nd prize (no 1st prize) at the international  ARD Music competition in Munich 1987.

 

She has played as a soloist and as a chamber musician around the world : in Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, France and Denmark. 

 

She has recorder the Brahms clarinet sonatas with Marita Viitasalo, Schubert with soprano Soile Isokoski and music by Crusell with cond.Osmo Vänskä (Tapiola Sinfonietta).

 

Anna-Maija Korsimaa has given many master classes and she teached at the Sibelius Academy 1994-2011. She has played as a solo clarinetist in Finnish Radio Orchestra  and  Finnish Opera Orchestra, and she has been a member of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra  since 1985 ( alternating solo clarinetist).
