Competition Rules

 

1. Group Divisions

 

Group A

 

open to students from conservatories of music, art colleges, university music departments and affiliated music high schools (students who are not studying in conservatories of music, art colleges, university music departments and affiliated music high schools can provide recommendation letters from the teachers in order to participate)

 

Group B

 

for all other younger music students and students who love music

 

The specific group divisions of each instrument are as following and all ages are as of Aug. 1st, 2021:

 

Violin:

 

Group A1: 18-26 years old 

 

Group A2: 12-17 years old 

 

Group B1: 9-11 years old 

 

Group B2: Up to 8 years old 

 

Flute and Clarinet:

 

Group A1: 18-26 years old 

 

Group A2: 15-17 years old 

 

Group B: Up to 14 years old 

 

 

2. Repertoire requirements

 

Violin

 

The groups A of this competition have two special awards for the best performance of the obligatory Spanish composition. The prize is provided by the Joan Manén Music Association    (http://www.joanmanen.cat/eng/), and awarded to the best performers in the A1 and A2 groups who wish to compete in this category. Participants who wish to compete for this award are required to add the obligatory Spanish composition in the second round repertoire. 

 

First round:

 

Group A1:  Repertoire of the contestant's choice under 10 minutes  

 

Group A2:  Repertoire of the contestant's choice under 10 minutes

 

Violin Group B1: Repertoire of the contestant's choice under 7 minutes

 

Violin Group B2:  Repertoire of the contestant's choice under 4 minutes

 

Second round: 

12 finalists in each group

 

Group A1: 

 

         Two works of the following, under 18 minutes (different from the first round)

 

        1. Choose one movement of a sonata, suite or partita for solo violin by J.S. Bach, or one movement of Concerto No. 3, No. 4 or No. 5 by W. A. Mozart. 

 

       2. Choose one movement of a concerto or a solo piece from the romantic to the                          contemporary period.

 

Contestants who would like to compete in the Spanish Composition Performance Award category need to perform the obligatory piece, Danza Iberica No. 2 by Joan Manén, and the total duration of this round will be extended from 18 minutes to 20 minutes.

Group A2: 

 

         Two works of the following, under 16 minutes (different from the first round)

 

        1. Choose one movement of a sonata, suite or partita for solo violin by J. S. Bach, or one movement of     Concerto No. 3, No.4 or No. 5 by W. A. Mozart.

 

       2. Choose one movement of a concerto or a solo piece from the romantic to the contemporary period.

 

Contestants who would like to participate in the Spanish composition Performance Award need to perform the obligatory piece, Chanson Op. A-8, No. 1 by Joan Manén and the total duration of this round will be extended from 18 minutes to 20 minutes.

2. Choose one movement of a concerto or a solo piece from the romantic to the contemporary  period.

 

Group A2: 

 

Two works of the following under 15 minutes (different from the first round)

 

1. Syrinx for solo flute by C. Debussy

 

2. Choose one movement of a concerto or a solo piece from the romantic to the contemporary period.

 

Group B: 

 

Choose one movement of a concerto or a solo piece under 7 minutes (different from the first round).

 

Clarinet

 

Group A1: 

 

Two works under 18 minutes (different from the first round)

 

1. Choose one movement of the Concerto in A major by W. A. Mozart.

 

2. Choose one movement of a concerto  or a solo piece from the romantic to the contemporary period.

 

Group A2: 

 

Two works under 15 minutes (different from the first round)

 

1. Choose one movement of the Concerto No. 1 in F minor by C. M. von Weber.

 

2. Choose one movement  of a concerto or a solo piece from the romantic to the contemporary period.

 

Group B: 

 

One movement of a concerto or an solo piece under 7 minutes (different from the first round)

 

3. Video requirements: 

 

- The required videos must be recorded after January 1, 2021

- The videos must be recorded in horizontal mode with a fixed screen, from start to finish without editing.

- The videos must be  uploaded  to YouTube (indicating the full name of the contestant, instrument, group, and title of the piece, for exemple, John Smith, Flute, A1, Syrinx by Debussy)

- Deadline to submit the link to the video of the 1st round: 18:00 Central European Time CET, July 15, 2021 via e-mail to: info@zhongxiqiao-asoc.es

- Deadline to submit the link to the video of the 2nd round: 18:00 CET, July 22, 2021, via e-mail to: info@zhongxiqiao-asoc.es
(the video(s) of the 2nd round can be submitted along with the video(s) of the 1st round)

The competition is open to students and music lovers of all nationalities. Considering the situation caused by the pandemic, videos without piano accompaniment and videos accompanied by a pre-recorded track will be accepted, as long they are of adequate quality.

 

4. Non-Refundable Application Fee:

 

Group A: 85 Euros

 

Group B: 70 Euros

 

5. Important Dates of the Competition: 

 

- Application Deadline: July 15, 2021


- Date of publication of the list of finalists to  the 2nd round: July 21, 2021


- Date of publication of the list of winners: July 27, 2021

 

 

 

6.   Materials Required for Application:

 

- ID or passport  front page (a clear scan or photo)

- An artistic photo

- Complete and submit the application form online 

- Payment certificate (send a screenshot after payment)

A recommendation letter from the main teacher is required for those who are not currently studying full-time at a Conservatory of Music, a university music department, or an affiliate school of music, and wish to compete in groups A.

7. Payment Method:

The awards

  • Each group will have 6 winners (electronic certificate), and 6 finalists with the certificate of "Excellence in interpretation" (electronic version)
  • The "Excellence in the teaching field" award will be awarded with the certificate to the teachers of the first prize winners of the A groups, to recognize their great work (electronic version).
  • All participants will have the Certificate of Participation (electronic version).

The currency exchange rate 1 RMB =  0.13 Euro, approximately, 26/4/2021

 

  Important:

  • The jury's decision is final.
  • The Jury reserves the right to leave any prize vacant, or/and to grant tied awards.
  • Likewise, the organization reserves the right to increase the number of the prizes or create new prizes if necessary.
